Archant

The people of Beccles have had their say and the results are in.

For many it is the essential companion for a cuppa - but just what is the best biscuit that money can buy?

Last week we asked people on the Enjoy Beccles More Facebook page to settle the debate once and for all by voting for their favourite sweet treats.

And with the votes having been counted and verified, we can now reveal that Beccles’ favourite biscuit is...the chocolate digestive!

The old faithful choccy digestive - famed for its dunking prowess - ran out a clear winner, taking 37pc of the vote.

It’s a result that will no doubt please Facebook user Lucy Waters, who said: “Can’t go wrong with a chocolate digestive”.

Second place was shared by custard cream and jammie dodgers, who each gained 13pc of the vote, while shortbread was close behind with 11pc.

The rest of the results are as follows:

• Bourbon - 9pc

• Jaffa cake - 8pc (the ‘is it a biscuit or is it a cake?’ debate rumbles on)

• Hob nob - 7pc

• Rich tea - 1%

• Ginger nut - 1%

• Kit Kat - 0%

So that’s it settled, then. The best biscuit - or at least Beccles’ favourite, anyway - is the chocolate digestive.
