A bowls club is set to hold an open day for members of the public to give outdoor lawn bowls a try.

Viewers will probably have seen bowls on television at the recent Commonwealth and Games and may be been tempted to try their hand at the sport.

On Saturday, April 28, Beccles Town Bowls Club will be open from 11am to 3pm for budding bowlers to strive for the standards of the professionals on the Gold Coast.

All you need to do is bring along a pair of shoes and the club, based at Hungate on one of the best outdoor greens in the region, will supply the rest. Members will be on hand to help and provide guidance to new players.

Players of any age or ability are welcome at Beccles Town Bowls Club, with membership available aged 16 and upwards. Under 16s are also welcome.

The sport offers the chance to play at local level alongside international and national champion players, while there is the potential to go on and represent your country at a top level.

A qualified coach at the club will assist and answer questions that bowlers may have.

Bowls is not just a competitive sport, but also a chance to stay healthy and meet new friends. Social events are held throughout the season, including barbecue nights and an end of season evening function.
