This week on Community Corner, we share an appeal from Beccles U3A, who are in need of some new committee members.

Beccles U3A founder and business secretary Susan Shannon said she, alongside four other committee members are due to step down this year, with only one member having come forward to volunteer for the committee.

The U3A requires a committee of eight members to meet the minimum requirement for their constitution.

She said: “We need at least one more volunteer to step forward between now and the AGM to meet the requirements of our Constitution (minimum eight members) but realistically we need an additional three new committee members in order for Beccles U3A to continue to run as it has over the past three plus years.

“If we are unable to have the minimum requirement of Committee members then the future of Beccles U3A could be at risk.

The Committee is very surprised that more members have not come forward to carry forward with the good work achieved to date.

“All we need is three more people from a membership of over 600 to join the committee.

She added: “I hope that we can survive but if the members and possibly any perspective members do not support us, then all this hard work and the benefits may be lost.

“Hopefully people will reflect on the value of Beccles U3A and consider how their skills may be able to support it.”
