Community Corner: Sail away with Beccles Amateur Sailing Club
PUBLISHED: 08:00 11 May 2018
This week on Community Corner we are sailing away into the sunset with Beccles Amateur Sailing Club.
Intrepid individuals have been enjoying sailing at Beccles Amateur Sailing club for more than 110 years since its foundation in 1907.
A spokesman said: “Training takes place for members each year from May until July, where new people can learn the basic skills and rules for sailing.
“The club is run by the members and everyone volunteers for duties such as officer of the day and timekeeper who run the races, manning the safety boat, serving in the galley, and of course maintaining our wonderful facilities.
They added: “The club is family friendly and sails on Saturday afternoons from April until November. The first race is at 2pm with a sunset series run on Wednesday evenings for 8 weeks starting on June 6th at 6.30pm.
“Between August 6 and 8 we have our Open Regatta, one of the highlights of the year which attracts many sailors from other clubs.
“It is a very sociable time with members and visitors camping on the marsh or staying on boats moored by the Clubhouse. The competitors race in different classes of boats and there are 17 trophies to be won.”
“The clubhouse is situated on the south bank of the river Waveney just below the bypass bridge.
“We offer a warm welcome to all those interested in sailing during the club opening times. For more details on membership visit our website www.becclesasc.co.uk”
The Enjoy Beccles More team would love to hear about and spread the word further of all of your community groups.
