I Remember When...Memories of my favourite Beccles shop
Having grown up in Beccles, only moving a short drive away to Oulton when I bought my first home last year, I have fond memories of spending my pocket money in the town’s shops.
I started out visiting with my parents at the weekends, before I was old enough to walk into town with my friends and spend hours browsing every shop in town working out what to spend my savings on.
When I think back to the shops I used to enjoy visiting in my younger years, the first that springs to mind is a shop that sadly no longer exists.
Morlings music shop, located in the heart of the town in New Market, was always my first stop to buy the latest songs from the charts, and I can remember flicking my way through the many rows of CDs looking for my favourite artists.
The shop also stocked posters of pop artists and TV characters, and although I don’t think I ever bought one, I would always look through them too.
I can’t remember when exactly the shop closed - perhaps you can - and now the building is used by Coral as a betting shop.
Do you have fond memories of shops in Beccles which have now closed their doors? Or just memories in general of the town you would like to share?
