All you need to know about the new Miss Beccles
A new queen has been chosen to represent Beccles at this year’s carnival.
Christine Soanes was crowned the new Miss Beccles at a selection afternoon held at Blyburgate Hall on May 20, alongside Evie Gregson and Brooke Lay as princesses and Harrison Nichols as this year’s prince.
Over the next few days we will find out all there is to know about each of our royal representatives.
First up is mum of two Christine...
Name: Christine Soanes
Where do you live: Beccles
Occupation: Works as a lister at William H Brown Estate agents
Hobbies and interests:
I am a mum of two boys so I enjoy spending my weekends and evening with my children. I enjoy swimming at Beccles Lido in the summer months. I really enjoy up-cycling furniture in my spare time. I like having long walks along the marsh trails.
I have chosen to raise funds for the Big Dog Ferry which is a relaxing three mile boat trip from Beccles Lido along the River Waveney and you can enjoy the wildlife en route. It is an asset to Beccles which is great for tourists coming to the area as well as local people to use to enjoy. It costs a lot of money to keep the boat in great running order and the money I raise will hopefully help towards their costs.
What I like best about Beccles:
I love the fact that Beccles is a traditional market town with a fantastic community, and great facilities for all ages. Everyone in the town is really friendly. I like that people care about our town and keeping Beccles on the map by introducing new events to bring new people to the town. I like that we still have a Friday market for people to buy local produce which as been something that brings people to our town on a Friday for years.
Why I wanted to be a Beccles ambassador 2018:
I wanted to be a Beccles ambassador because I think it is a great opportunity to support the carnival team and to help promote Beccles at various events during my forthcoming year and show people that we still have a fantastic carnival in Beccles which is growing in size again yearly. I wanted to show people that you don’t have to be skinny to be the face of Beccles and it doesn’t matter if you’re a mum you can still do this. I am one of the older women who have won the competition which shows it isn’t just for the young women of Beccles it is for everyone.
What I am looking forward to the most:
I am very much looking forward to meeting and talking to lots of new people at all the events I get to attend. The main Beccles Carnival day on August 19 is going to be great as us ambassadors get to be on a lorry and head the carnival parade through the streets of our beautiful town. I can’t wait to get stuck in raising money for my selected organisation.
Don’t forget to visit Enjoy Beccles More tomorrow where we will meet our first carnival princess. You can also join our Enjoy Beccles More Facebook page!
