As Beccles Free School celebrated its greatest ever GCSE results one pupil’s individual efforts stood out.

An incredible 67pc of the school’s pupils achieved a grade four or above in English and maths - 6pc more than last year.

And one of the greatest success stories to come from the school was that of Seren Saunders.

Despite battling cystic fibrosis the hard-working pupil earned a number of high grades including six GCSEs at grade seven or higher and grade eight in English Literature and drama.

She said: “I’m really pleased, I was convinced I hadn’t passed anything, but I actually did really well.

“The teachers has been amazing - I missed some school time because of my illness but everyone has been so supportive.

“I’m now looking forward to studying French, English literature and drama at East Norfolk Sixth Form College from November.”
