Sport on the Spot: First week of your sport stories
PUBLISHED: 07:00 06 April 2018
In the first edition of our weekly sport segment, a keenly-contested golf tournament comes to a close.
As part of the newly-launched Enjoy Beccles More page, we will be putting Sport on the Spot every week.
This is an opportunity to celebrate the efforts and achievements of the town’s various sports teams and talented sporting competitors. It could be anything from news and match reports to special events and intriguing tales.
We want you to get in touch, telling us about your latest sporting endeavours or what’s going on at your club.
Kicking us off this week is Beccles Golf Club.
Chris Collison overpowered some stiff competition to win the Winter Eclectic Championship at Beccles Golf Club.
As the contest came to a conclusion on Saturday, March 31, a magnificent net round of 52 saw Collison home by a single shot from Benjamin Turner.
The contest had seesawed throughout the winter season with a low gross score of six-under-par, but Collison held his nerve to secure top spot.
David Wells’ fine form continued with a solid third place in the eclectic competition, and he exceeded that achievement with an excellent victory in the Stableford event held over the weekend. He finished with 38 points, after some trademark putting and quality gameplay.
Benjamin Turner was in second place three shots further back and Nick Hope also made an appearance on the leaderboard in third.
Beccles Golf Club would like to thank event sponsors and supporters Promens, RPC, Harleston Engineering and Asset Angels. Visit the club’s website to find out more information.
